Schoolchildren pooled their loose change to raise money for a blindness charity.
Mayor of Barnet Councillor Hugh Rayner visited Bishop Douglass School in East Finchley to collect a donation of £147.26 for the Barnet Association for the Blind.
Deputy head girl Cristina Gliga explained the idea behind the penny collection.
She said: “The whole point being we do not want people to be under pressure but most of us would not miss some loose change and the cumulative effect of all these small donations can be significant.”
