Teachers at a new school have vowed to continue making their school “fantastic” after it was rated ‘outstanding’.
St Andrews the Apostle School, in Brunswick Park, opened two years ago – but has already been given the highest rating possible by Ofsted inspectors.
Robert Ahern, the headteacher of the school, said the result is a testament to students’ and teachers’ hard work.
He said: “We were hopeful we’d be recognised as outstanding, but this feels like a validation of all the hard work we’re doing.
“The students really enjoy being at the school and are immensely proud to be there. They’ve all got a thirst for learning.
“They are kind, tolerant and respectful and that’s another huge quality of the school. The fruit of their work is now being recognised.”
The report praised the Mr Aherne’s “determined vision”, the student’s behaviour, and the way they “burst with pride” at their achievements.
The school, which currently has students in Years 7 and 8 is the UK’s first Greek Orthodox State School but is open to people of all cultures.
Mr Aherne added: “There’s always room for improvement, and we’ve got a team of dedicated staff. They have said we can’t relax – we’ve got to push on now to get even better.
“This is a real team effort. Even parents have given everything to the school to make it fantastic.”
