Eleven young performers from Barnet are hoping to beat off hundreds of other Londoners to be crowned busker of the year, as the country's biggest street music competition gets underway.

Gigs is the Mayor of London's annual search for the capital's best young musicians, and will see 131 acts take part in performances across London, from today until Saturday, August 8.

A busking trip to Paris and recording time in a professional studio are among the prizes on offer.

Barnet performers taking part in this year’s competition include soloists Tali Shear, Jide Kuti, Natalie Good, Kaity Rae and Niall Logue, and groups I Talk To Strangers, Hollisters' Rose and Naz & Ella.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “I'm thrilled that Gigs is up and running once again this summer and that this year the public will have more opportunities than ever to catch amazing street performances across the capital with the Busk in London Festival and the first National Busking Day.”

The public is being urged to vote for their favourite performance over the three weeks via the Gigs website at www.london.gov.uk/gigs
