Pupils from across Barnet were awarded for their achievements this week.

A total of 176 students received Jack Petchey Foundation achievement awards at a ceremony at the Arts Depot, in North Finchley, on Tuesday, July 14 and Wednesday, July 15.

The winners were nominated by their peers and won cash for school equipment.

Twelve adults also received leader awards for their work with young people.

Winners included Neve Renny, 13, from Ashmole Academy in Southgate, who helped an elderly lady after she fell off a bus and waited for an hour until the ambulance came. She won art equipment for her school.

Harley Evans, 11, from Mill Hill County High School, was nominated for helping an elderly couple in the community and for raising money for charity. She received science equipment for her school.

Barnet mayor Councillor Mark Shooter, who presented the awards, said: “An inspirational evening with so many happy young people who have been rewarded for their achievements. I know that this recognition will encourage them to continue to grow and inspire themselves and their peers.”

Borough Police Commander Adrian Usher said: “It is a really virtuous cycle as the young people here tonight have been inspired by teachers and Jack Petchey’s story, and I know that they will go on to inspire others to follow the same path. Congratulations to all the winners this evening.”

Youth organisations in Barnet have received £1,028,000 from the Jack Petchey Foundation since funding started in 2005.
