Celebrations are under way after an East Finchley school managed to achieve its best ever set of GCSE results.

The Bishop Douglass School, in Hamilton Road, East Finchley, saw 64 per cent of its pupils receive five GCSEs graded A* to C, including English and maths – a staggering rise of 22 per cent.

Headteacher Martin Tissot said: “This massive rise in results is a reflection of the hard work and industry of our pupils. The commitment of our staff has been above and beyond the call of duty and our parents have been right behind this year’s extra push.

“I have no doubt that this result is a stepping-stone and that next year’s overall results will be even stronger.”

Mr Tissot singled out Mr Lenane, head of Year 11, for praise for the way he had monitored and supported pupils.

Chairman of governors Mike Veal said: “I am grateful to our headteacher and the Cardinal Hume Academies Trust for their support. I am confident that the School is on a journey to even greater achievement in the future. “It is gratifying that our A to A*grades are a quarter of the total entry and have surpassed national average.”
