There are heavy traffic delays in Finchley after a man was hit by a bus earlier this morning.

The Metropolitan Police were called to the scene on the A1000 High Road, above the North Circular Road, at 7.30am.

London Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance also attended, and the man was taken to an east London hospital with head injuries.

A Met spokesman said an update on his condition awaits.

The bus stopped at the scene and the route number is unknown at this time.

The High Road is closed northbound at the North Circular Road, and there are southbound queues into East Finchley, and west on the North Circular to Henly’s Corner.

The 263 bus to Barnet Hospital is being diverted via East End Road and Finchley Central.

A spokesman for London Ambulance Service said: “"We were called at 7.25am to High Road, Finchley to reports of a road traffic collision.
"We sent a number of resources to the scene including an ambulance crew and London's Air Ambulance trauma team by car.
"We treated a patient for head injuries. They were taken to Royal London hospital, escorted by the doctor from London's Air Ambulance.”
