A TEAM from Barnet showed age is no barrier as they competed against hundreds of people at an Olympic-style games.
Around 750 people aged over 55 from across London took part in the Better Club Games at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford last Tuesday (November 17).
Teams took part in sports including football, badminton, table tennis and swimming, with Epsom and Ewell scooping first prize and Greenwich coming second.
The games were run by Better, a branch of the social enterprise GLL.
Actress Catherine Russell, who stars in BBC’s Holby City, was the guest of honour and presented the prizes.
She said: “There’s been an extraordinary sense of community and competitive spirit today. The event has been an absolute triumph.”
Jalpa Assani, team organiser and community sports manager of GLL, said: “It was great to see the team showcasing their skills which they worked so hard for in the run up to the games. Everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly and eagerly await next year’s games. Well done Team Barnet.”
