A GREEK restaurant in Friern Barnet has had its licence revoked over fears it could not prevent crime and disorder.

Police and licensing officers said The Greedy Greek, in Friern Barnet Road, repeatedly breached its licence over the past few months.

This included by failing to operate CCTV and continuing to sell alcohol, even when forbidden from doing so because of having no designated premises supervisor.

The owners were granted an alcohol licence last October, after they were initially refused one in December 2013 because of a history of criminal activity at the venue.

Barnet Council’s licensing sub-committee decided to revoke its licence last Monday (November 16).

Another breach involved the sons of the licence holders, who were prohibited from helping run the restaurant or visit it during opening hours – yet had been seen there numerous times, according to police.

In a letter to the authority, PC Vicky Wilcock said officers had “no faith” in the ability of the management to run the restaurant.

She said: “Police are primarily concerned about the number of times in which this premises has come to their attention for their inability to adhere to the licence conditions set out by the licensing sub-committee when the licence was granted in October 2014.

“Specific conditions were placed on the licence to help prevent crime and disorder as addressed in the objections made to the application.

“The MPS has no faith in the ability of the management to operate the premises in accordance with the licence or take on board advice and direction given by the licensing authorities.”

The council’s licensing team said it believed that allowing the restaurant to continue to trade would “undermine” the prevention of crime and disorder.

The restaurant owners could not be reached for comment.

A staff member at the restaurant told the Times Series earlier this month: "There's nothing really to say, but apart from the fact the place is under new management."
