A WOMAN who lost a friend to an aggressive brain tumour is cutting her hair to raise money in his memory.

Kimberley Mansi, of Riverdene, Edgware, will prove she is a cut above the rest when she chops off her locks to make a wig for a child with cancer.

The 37-year-old’s friend, Chris Bramhall, died aged of Ependymoma when he was 21 – 13 years after he was diagnosed at the age of eight.

His other, Sara Wilson, set up charity Fighting Ependymoma in his memory to combat the disease and support children who have brain tumours.

Ms Mansi said: “I’ve always wanted to do something good and I saw a program on TV about children that are going through chemotherapy.

“I’ve got really long hair so I thought I might be able to do two good things by turning my hair into a wig for a child as well as raising money and awareness as it is a cause that is close to my heart.

“It may only be a small thing but it is still a step to making the world a better place.”

She has already raised over £200 for Fighting Ependymoma through her online donation page.

The charity aims to raise money to fund research into combating the tumour in order to help children who have brain tumours.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under 40 than any other form of cancer, according to the charity Brain Tumour Research – but it only gets 0.7 per cent of the national cancer spend in the UK.

Ms Mansi added: “The lack of funding towards research is a big issue.

“Because of this there is not much of a community amongst sufferers as there is with other types such as breast cancer.”
