A WOMAN is running a marathon to raise money for an epilepsy charity in honour of her mother who has the condition.

Nasrin Rahman, of Oakwood Road, Southgate, will take part in the Vitality North London Half Marathon.

The 37-year-old chose to raise money for Epilepsy Research UK as her mother, Zahanara, 55, was diagnosed with it when she was a young girl.

Ms Rahman said: “As a family we are so proud of her. “Seeing her struggle over the years has been hard but seeing her come from these hard times with so much positivity makes us, her family, love her even more.”

The accountant attributes her mother’s improved health to the charities work.

She said: “She has not had a seizure of blackout in years and this is all due to the research over the years which has led to improved medication and improved understanding of the illness.

“I am hoping that the money I raise for ERUK will help to further research into treating or maybe even curing epilepsy and do good for another family just like they have for mine.”

Ms Rahman has been training regularly to prepare for the challenge. She has previously run 10k to raise over £1,000 for Cancer Research UK but is now hoping to double that tally this time around.

She added: “I’ve been doing 5 and 10k runs since last year but this would be the longest that I’ve ever done, so I think it’s going to be painful.

“I’m hoping that I will do well, I haven’t set a target time or anything for the race really I’m just hoping to complete it, even if I have to crawl over the finish line.”

The marathon will take place on March 20 and is 21km.
