A theatre group is stepping back in time with a rat pack style show to raise money for charities.

The Warren are a 40-member performance group based in Barnet, who have raised over £200,000 for charities over the years, as all proceeds from their shows are donated to different causes.

Next month’s show That’s Life, will be a 1920s New York style musical, performed at the Bull theatre in High Street Barnet.

Vice Chairman of the group, Lynne Tyson said: “Over the years we estimate we have raised £200,000 for local charities, which is an amazing tribute to Warren members past and present – and to everyone who has supported us over the years.

“Last year, we raised £8,000 which was split between five charities in the area.”

The proceeds from this year’s event will go towards four charities, including Hertfordshire Air Ambulance and The Encephalitis Society, who support adults and children affected by encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain.

The two other charities that will benefit are ICanDance, a group offering ballet and movement classes for children and young adults with learning difficulties and Northway School, a special school in Barnet for children with a range of learning difficulties.

The group are always looking to raise money for charities with fund runs, annual quiz nights and car boot sales.

The Warren was originally formed in 1949, but members called themselves ‘Bunny’s Warren’.

It consisted of members of the East Barnet Royal British Legion taking part in shows and concerts and raising money for ex-service men and their families. In 1981, members decided to branch out and raise money for a number of local charities instead of focusing on one.

That’s Life will take place from May 19-21.

Tickets are £12 each and can be bought online at www.thewarren.info or call 07982 462668.
