A charity golf day is aiming to pass their £600,000 mark to continue supporting two local hospices.

The Hendon Golf club will mark 25 years of raising more than £500,000 for both the North London Hospice and Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice.

A charity golf day will see more than 30 teams of golfers take to the 18-hole course on July 6, in Ashley Walk, Hendon.

Tom Monaghan, who has been the golf club's committee’s treasurer for 25 years, said: “We are hoping that this year will be our biggest yet and will take our fundraising total over £600,000.

“Our motivation has always been the patients, families and staff at the hospices.

"A sizeable number of our committee members have been in receipt of North London Hospice’s services over the years so we have experienced first-hand the care they provide.

"This is our way of giving something back.”

The golf day began in 1992, when former committee chairman Ronnie Lyons, chose the charity after his close relative was cared for by the team.

However, in 2006, Mr Lyons’ connection with the hospice grew, after he was cared for by the team, and spent his final days in the hospice’s inpatient unit in North Finchley.

The North London hospice has been caring for local people since 1984, and support those with a potentially life-limiting illness who have specialist needs.

The Noah's Ark children's hospice provides a community and home-based service for families living in Barnet and the team are looking forward to the complete construction of a purpose-built children’s hospice facility to extend their services.
