PUPILS, staff and parents competed against each other in a series of events to mark National sports week.

Edgware’s Woodlands School in Bransgrove Road, caters for children with complex and learning difficulties.

This year’s theme for National sports week is the Paralympics, however, Woodlands School focused on Paralympic values, which are determination, inspiration, courage and equality.

Children enjoyed seated volley ball games, wheelchair dancing, sensory air hockey, ballet, bhangra dancing, kick boxing, and wheelchair athletics.

Each class was marked as a different country and pupils created a flag to wave in support of their classmates at every event.

On Wednesday afternoon, children staff and parents took part in the running competitions, as well as the wheelchair races, fancy dress and the egg and spoon races.

The week ended with an award ceremony, and children received a medal for their achievements.

Head Teacher Anna Smakowska said: “This is a very important event not only to our pupils but also to our proud parents who can share their children’s accomplishments.

“The needs of our pupils are very broad and our Sports Week is a good example of how easy it is to make all sports inclusive and enable children to achieve.”
