A haven for plants and wildlife in Barnet could benefit from a cash boost if it wins a London-wide competition.
Dollis Valley Green Walk, a ten-mile pathway stretching from Mill Hill to Hampstead, has been shortlisted alongside 47 of the capital’s open spaces, for a chance to win a £400,000 grant as part of the Help A London Park campaign.
The initiative, launched by London mayor Boris Johnson on Tuesday, will use public votes to decide which park will scoop the cash prize.
If Dollis Valley Green Walk secures the highest number of votes, the grant will be used to make the Walk safer for residents as well as a new play area for children.
Councillor Andrew Harper, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “Here in Barnet we are proud of our clean and green reputation.
“If we can win the funding for the Dollis Valley Green Walk, we can add still further to our wonderful parks heritage.”
He added the money would be used to improve footpaths, signage and park furniture. Fencing will be restored and replaced and new play equipment will be purchased.
One lucky park will be handpicked by London mayor Boris Johnson to receive a grant of £2 million.
