Thirteen schools and one children's centre in Barnet have been recognised for their achievements at a celebratory event at London's Guildhall.
Thirty per cent more schools in Barnet than in any other London borough achieved an “outstanding” rating from Ofsted in their most recent inspections, between 2007 and 2008.
There are also 21 childminders in the borough with "outstanding provider" status.
Addressing the 300 headteachers who attended the event in east London, Her Majesty's chief inspector, Christine Gilbert, said: "Outstanding schools have leaders of vision, courage and conviction, and the ability to create and inspire their staff, their students and the communities they serve.
“I hope that these outstanding schools are a beacon to others; an example of what can be achieved with aspiration and determination."
Oliver Blond, headteacher of The Henrietta Barnett School, in Central Square, Hampstead Garden Suburb, said: "We are very happy to celebrate the pupils' educational success as everyone strives so hard to provide the best possible support and opportunities for them in such a variety of ways.
"The school's achievements are a result not only of everyone's commitment and shared purpose but of the belief that education is about much more than passing exams.
"We are convinced that the best education involves pupils learning far beyond the limits imposed by examinations, getting involved in as many different activities, trips and visits as they can and ensuring that they maintain their sense of excitement, curiosity and love of learning."
Schools that appear on the "outstanding providers" list 2007/08 receive commemorative certificates.
Nearly 3,000 schools, colleges and social care providers in England were judged to be outstanding in the inspection cycle 2007-2008.
Mary Karaolis, head teacher of The Ravenscroft School, in Barnet Lane, Barnet, said: "Recognition at such a prestigious venue is an indication of the hard work required to achieve outstanding status and should make the children, staff, parents, governors and other stakeholders at our schools very proud.
“I think Barnet should be rightly proud of the achievements of so many of its schools in 2007 and 2008."
