NEW measures to prevent the threat of flooding in Colindale will be explored by scientists.
Water management consultants Scott Wilson have been commissioned by Barnet Council to find ways to prevent a repeat of the widespread flooding that affected homes and businesses in 2007.
The work will focus on the Silk Stream, which can rise quickly after heavy rainfall and reach full capacity within two hours.
The risk of floods is increased because it can become blocked by debris or rubbish dumped in the channel, while the stream’s bed of clay can also prevent water soaking away.
The investigation is being carried out in partnership with Imperial College, using tests on models to simulate how rainwater runs off the landscape and where it gathers in ponds.
