MORE than 80 golfers braved the sweltering heat in Barnet this week to raise £30,000 for a disability charity.
The event, at Dyrham Park Country Club, in Galley Lane, on Wednesday raised much-needed funds for Norwood, which helps children, adults and families living with learning disabilities or social disadvantage.
After finishing their rounds, the corporate teams returned to the club-house for a glass of Pimms and a buffet lunch.
Speaking at the meal, Jeff Fine, 59, spoke about his experience with the charity.
Mr Fine's 28-year-old son James, was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy after he was born, and now lives at a Norwood home in Stanmore.
Mr Fine said: “Norwood is fantastic. From a family point of view, we know James is well cared for, beautifully looked after and has a fantastic life.”
One of the golfers, Dexter Gaul, a partner at Orange Information Systems, said: “It was a great day and Norwood is a fantastic cause that we support wholeheartedly.
"I’ll definitely be coming back next year and for as long as it is running.”
Following the event, David Galman, chairman of the Norwood Golf Committee, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who helped to make this day such a great success.
"The money raised will support some of the most vulnerable children, adults and families in our community.”
