RECORD GCSE results have sent a Hampstead Garden Suburb school to the top of the national league tables.

Pupils from Henrietta Barnett School, in Central Square, are believed to have achieved the second highest results in the country after gaining their best results ever.

Out of the 93 girls sitting the exams, 98.9 per cent received five or more A* or A grades and 68.84 per cent of the papers were graded A*.

Eighteen students - 19 per cent - achieved at least ten A*s.

Headteacher Oliver Blond said: "These are the best GCSE results the school has ever achieved and we are delighted for the girls.

"They have worked incredibly hard across all their subjects and really deserve these fantastic results.

"It is also impressive that the pupils kept up their interests in music, drama, sport, art and a range of other extra-curricular activities throughout the year.

"It is easy to lose sight of the broader aspects of education in Year 11, but they have managed to keep things in perspective and maintained their wider interests.

"The key to their success is that the pupils have such a depth of commitment to their work and genuinely love learning and intellectual discussion.

"We are very proud of them and their achievements."
