Cowell set to celebrate 50th in Barnet mansion

A LAVISH birthday party is being thrown for millionaire music mogul Simon Cowell at an 18th Century mansion in Barnet.

Billionaire retail tycoon Sir Philip Green is reported to be planning a no-expense-spared, Twenties-themed soiree "fit for a king" at Wrotham House, off Dancers Hill Road, Hertfordshire, on Saturday night.

The black-tie bash for the £120m X Factor star's 50th birthday is expected to cost more than £500,000.

A host of A-list celebrities are believed to be among the guests, including Sir Elton John and David Furnish, Kevin Spacey, Kylie Minogue, and supermodel Kate Moss, who models and designs for Sir Philip’s Topshop stores.

Mr Cowell's co-judges on X-Factor - Dannii Minogue, Louis Walsh and Cheryl Cole - are also all invited, as well as his colleagues on Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent.

The silver, mirrored invitation, designed by Sir Philip himself, apparently features the X Factor judge surrounded by four scantily-clad angels in a tongue-in-cheek reference to Mr Cowell's vanity.

Wrotham Park is a Palladian mansion set in the heart of a 2,500-acre estate near the border of Barnet and Hertfordshire, and was used for scenes for the movie Gosford Park.

A spokeswoman for the estate confirmed an event was taking place, but refused to give any more details.

She said: "Something is happening, but we can't say any more than that due to confidentiality."
