Community comes together to support Help for Heroes

PEOPLE from across Barnet have been coming together to support Barnet Football Club's Help for Heroes fundraiser.

As well as a community football tournament from 10am and a match between Barnet and Crewe at 3pm there are now a variety of extra activities to interest children and adults alike, at the event on December 12.

To get everybody into the spirit at the Underhill Stadium in Barnet Lane, the Middlesex Wing Band will perform at the event, which will raise money for servicemen and women who have been injured in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Saturday strikers can have a go at the blow up goal while listening to the choir.

Santa will be there to see children in his grotto and visitors can get into the Christmas spirit with some mulled wine and mince pies.

If you fancy your chances at a serious challenge, the Army will be on site with a military-grade assault course.

Cinema chain Odeon has also donated tickets to be sold to a special film screening.

There will also be a sealed bid auction with prizes including the chance to train with Ian Hendon and the club's first team.

Community manager of the Barnet Football Club Community Trust Janet Matthewson said: “Everyone's coming together, it's really a good community feel that everyone's supporting the event.

“It is great to have the help but to be honest I'm not surprised. I think that people can put themselves in the place of families that are serving abroad in conflicts and that's why they're supporting the occasion.”

Barnet FC has donated 500 tickets to the Barnet vs Crewe match which will be sold for at least the cover price of £7 for adults and £2 for children.

The club is offering them for that price but hopes supporters will pay much more for them – every penny of their sale is going to Help for Heroes.
