AN ESCAPED convict with links to Edgware has been continuing to taunt police using social networking site Facebook over the Christmas period.

Last week the Times Series revealed Craig Lynch, 28, who escaped from Hollesley Bay Open Prison in Suffolk on September 23 had been regularly updating his profile while on the run.

The former Edgware resident was serving the last few months of a seven year sentence for aggravated burglary at the jail.

Over Christmas Lynch, who dubbed himself 'Lazie' posted: “wow it really is xmas ha ha i cant beleive i made it” and “Oh No sirens!!...false alarm it was an ambulance..oh no I think its the old lady in the bungalow opposite.”

He also now has a fan page which has attracted nearly 8,000 followers from across the world, many of whom have left messages of support for him. In the location details it says he is in Wembley.

On it he has posted: “Trying to figure out my plans for New Years. I know what I want to do but its not that easy,” after it was revealed he had planned to attend a party in Lowestoft.

However, some users have created other groups called “Craig 'Lazie' Lynch is No Hero” and “I Hate Craig Lynch” where people have posted messages urging him to hand himself in to police.

One post reads: “How stupid can people be egging this idiot on? How can people think that this guy is a hero when we've got lads risking their lives every day in Afgan, they are the real heroes.”

Last week a spokeman for Suffolk police said they are still trying to locate Lynch.
