A POTTERS Bar man taking on the challenge of running three marathons this year to raise cash for a cancer charity completed his first one on Sunday.

Marcus Fearon, of Highview Close, completed the Barcelona Marathon in a respectable four hours and 15 minutes, but hopes to slash 30 seconds a mile off the time for April's London Marathon.

He is running to raise cash for the Anthony Nolan Trust, which helps to research treatment of Lukaemia.

The 26-year-old building surveyor said: “It was good fun, it's such an amazing city to run through. They closed off the whole of the centre so we were running past some of the really famous buildings.

“It was hard to keep myself moving running past some of Gaudi's buildings, I had to keep thinking you're here to run not be a tourist.”

Mr Fearon went with his girlfriend, who supported him as he ran the 26-mile course.

He added: “We had all types of weather while we were there. It even snowed one of the days, but fortunately it was quite cool and overcast for the run.

“It was hard to get up and do the sightseeing on Monday, but I promised my girlfriend so had to do it.”

He is hoping to raise around £1,500 during his challenge, which culminates with the Berlin Marathon in December.
