THE borough's first exclusive sporting event for children with disabilities will take place today.
Secondary school children from mainstream and special schools in the borough will take part in the Barnet Bar-no one event at Barnet Copthall Stadium between 9.30am and 3pm.
The sports include boccia, football, table cricket, new age kurling, polybat and athletics.
All the youngsters who take part will receive a medal and Deputy Mayor Cllr Hugh Rayner will be on hand to award six trophies to three boys and girls for best effort, best performance and best sportsmanship.
Barnet Bar-no one was devised after the council received a £5,000 sports grant from the Balfour Beatty Sports Development Grant Programme.
The money will also pay for Barnet's first ever boccia club.
Boccia is a sport specifically for people with physical disabilities which involves throwing leather balls at a target 'jack'.
