DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses to a sexual assault on a teenager in Southgate last month.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Service's specialist sex crimes unit are investigating allegations a 14-year-old girl was attacked by a group of teenage boys in Brunswick Park, on June 20.

Police said the girl had been walking with two friends through the area when they met a 15-year-old boy they knew. It is believed he was with three other males.

The victim's friends left her saying they would return shortly, but soon after texted her to say they were no longer going to come back, a Scotland Yard statement said.

It is then alleged the girl was attacked by the boys and sexually assaulted.

Police said the gang was made up of three black boys and a white boy, aged between 14 and 16, and about 5ft 4” to 5ft 6” tall.

They were wearing wearing black ski type woolly hats, dark hooded tops, combat trousers and jeans.

Detective Inspector Caroline Haines, of the MPS Sapphire Unit, based at Barnet Police Station, said: "We know this area to be frequented by dog walkers and other local residents.

“If anyone saw the suspects there, or heard or saw anything in the Brunswick Park/ Hampden Square area, I would ask them to contact us."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sapphire Unit at Barnet on 0208 733 5062.

A 15-year-old was arrested the next day and bailed to return to Colindale police station in September, pending further enquiries.
