SACKED social housing workers may be offered jobs with whichever company takes over the defunct contract according to Barnet Homes.

The arms-length management organisation, which runs Barnet's council housing stock, says it is in negotiations with three potential contractors to take over the repair contract from Connaught.

Dozens of workers were told on Friday they had been sacked after the company went into administration, ending its contract with Barnet Homes.

However, they could find work with whichever company takes over the contract, after being moved from the council to Barnet Homes and then to Connaught in 2007.

A statement from the ALMO said: “Barnet Homes is making arrangements for the repairs service to be provided by other companies and is discussing with them taking on Connaught's workforce.

“There will be a time of uncertainty and a drop in our ability to provide a full repairs service until these arrangements are in place.

“Residents should continue to report any necessary repairs, but we are prioritising the most serious repairs that affect the health and safety of our residents at present.”

Staff are attending a meeting tomorrow with Barnet Homes to discuss the situation.
