Middlesex University has received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise, a prestigious honour to celebrate the success of British businesses.

The award was given for outstanding achievement in international trade and is a reflection of the university’s commercial success.

Hundreds of overseas students study at Middlesex every year which has helped increase its income by £10million in the last three years.

The money primarily comes from students’ fees including fees paid by those studying at the university’s campuses in Dubai and Mauritius.

Middlesex will also be opening a new centre in India in October and already works in partnership with international institutions which award Middlesex degrees from their campuses.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Driscoll said: “High quality education is one of our country’s most impressive exports and we are proud to be recognised as an industry leader in providing and promoting this quality overseas.

“Our aims are simple – to provide excellent education and student experiences here in North London and abroad.”

The university’s latest international projects include plans for a specialist creative arts centre in southern Delhi, and work closer to home includes a new £80million art, design and media hub in Hendon which will open this October.

Commenting on the Queen’s Award, Councillor Andrew Harper, deputy leader of Barnet Council and cabinet member for education, children and families, said: “My warmest congratulations go to Middlesex University on receiving this prestigious accolade.

“We are proud to have such a highly regarded educational institute in our borough, allowing us to welcome many foreign students each year.

“This award has not only put Middlesex University’s name firmly on the international map but also that of Barnet, a successful London suburb.”

Winners are announced each year on April 21, Her Majesty's birthday, and are invited to attend a reception at Buckingham Palace later in the year.
