TWO Barnet teenagers will represent England in football as members of the British College Sports Ladies England Squad.

The Barnet and Southgate College students qualified for the squad after three phases of trails against other UK colleges.

Ryah Vyse, 19, and Siobhan Wilson, 17, are both completing their BTEC Level 3 in sports development.

Both avid footballers, Ryah currently plays for Middlesex County and Tottenham Hotspurs Ladies first team and has been with the club since she was ten years old.

Siobhan plays for Tottenham Hotspurs Ladies under 21s and also played in last year’s BCS team.

About 150 students try out for the squad, with only 22 places available.

Siobhan said: "There were three rounds of trials and each got harder and harder.

"At the last one there were 33 girls and they had to cut it down to 22, so I had to play better than everyone else. I was so proud actually."

An Arsenal supporter, Siobhan said football ran in the family and her father was a also a big fan of the sport.

She said: "I like the competitiveness and the motivation of the game."

The trials were also attended by football scouts from the USA, who have offered full football scholarships to both girls, which they are due to take up at the end of the year.

Ryan said she had shortlisted her offers to three: Kansas, Oklahoma and North Dakota.

She explained: "I'd like to go to Oklahoma because they play a good level and they've got two players on their team who play internationally for the US."

Siobhan hopes to take up a full scholarship offer from Louisiana.

Which offers the girls will accept depends on their SAT results.

Barnet and Southgate College Principal Marilyn Hawkins said: “This is an amazing achievement for Barnet and Southgate College and we are very proud of both football students.

"Ryah and Siobhan have demonstrated that investing in hard work and training really does pay off, we wish them every success and luck for the BCS matches.”

The squad will be attending a training camp at West Bromwich Albion FC this weekend in preparation for its first fixture against Australia on January 31 at Solihull Moors FC.
