National Libraries Day event in Friern Barnet

A campaign group fighting to keep Friern Barnet Library open will join celebrations to mark National Libraries Day today.

The event will start at 2pm with a walk from the Old Town Hall to the library in Friern Barnet Road.

Save Friern Barnet Library group was launched after Barnet Council announced plans to close the facility and move it to the artsdepot nearly two miles away. The group has continued to organise events as a way to show how much they love their library.

Today’s theme is I Love My Local Library and everyone is encouraged to bring a banner or paper heart. The event will finish at 4pm.
