Talented teen from Mill Hill wins Mayor's poetry competition

A talented Mill Hill teenager has scooped the top prize in a poetry competition organised by the London Mayor.

Fope Jegede, 15, won the 100 Great Things About the Games poetry competition with her poem, The Champion’s Story, which was selected from more than 2,000 entries.

Fope’s prize is an exclusive Olympic Park bus tour for 30 of her friends and family.

The judging panel included Time Out Kids editorial manager, Holly Pick; Children's Laureate, Julia Donaldson and young athlete Stephanie King.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson described Fope’s poem as "remarkable" and gave special congratulations to the young winner.

Alexandra Otubanjo, 15, from Hendon, was also shortlisted in the competition.

Speaking about the entries, Mayor Johnson said: "I’m delighted to see such a youthful passion for prose, inspired by what will undoubtedly be the most amazing year in the capital's long history.

"Young Londoners are motivated, focussed and imaginative."
