Budding Barnet media star presents TV programme

A budding media star from Barnet is producing and presenting his own TV show after being selected to take part in a press boot camp.

Recent graduate Tom Whiter, 22, from Holden Park, Woodside Park, is one of ten Londoners involved in the London 360, a charity project which aims to help young people progress in the media industry, run by the Media Trust.

The group of 18-25-year-olds produce a weekly programme on the Community Channel covering stories from the capital.

Tom, who films part of the programme at BBC White City, said: “It’s really interesting being able to grab the camera and go out and talk to people rather than being stuck in a newsroom.

“It’s all hands to the pumps. We write, produce and present the programme ourselves and put it together from scratch.

“We’re all full of ideas and ambition. We have Jools Holland on one side and had Strictly Come Dancing the other, but we’re still the loudest people in the studio.”

The show airs on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays at 12pm, 12am, 7am and 7pm.

The group also writes a weekly column in The Voice newspaper and has a weekly slot on BBC Radio London.

Tom said: “I love the idea of giving a voice to people who don’t usually have one and presenting an unconventional view of the city, hence the name 360.”

Speaking about his ambition for the future, Tom said: “I aim to do more production work and hope to be a TV researcher or producer and one day own my own company.”
