A pop and folk singer from North Finchley is preparing to take to the stage as part of a national competition.

Rebecca Gill has secured a spot in the second round of the Live and Unsigned auditions which will take place on March 11 at Beck Theatre in Hayes.

The 26-year-old, who also writes her own songs, said: “I’m quite nervous because there’ll be about 500 people in the audience – but I’m excited to be a part of it.

“I don’t know how far I’ll get in the competition but I just thought it would be good to get my name out there.

“I love music. It’s a huge part of my life, I couldn’t live without it. I’ve never wanted to do anything else.”

Rebecca has been performing since she was just seven years old and moved from Lancashire to the capital four years ago to try to further her career in music.

She currently works in a jewellery store in central London and as well as practising for her audition, she sings in a cappella girl group called Dukebox Productions.

As part of the auditions next month, Rebecca will play the guitar as she sings one of her own songs.

If she manages to win over the judges, she will take part in the grand final at the O2 where participants will compete for prizes including a £10,000 publicity investment, gigs at festivals in Canada, Italy and Latvia and a chance to take part in a UK tour.
