The Jewish Community Centre is looking for cyclists to take part in a fundraising bike ride on September 9.

The Hampstead centre has teamed up with international development charity Tzedek, and the Gauchers Association,  to organise a London to Cambridge bike ride.

They will raise money for the Gauchers Association, which supports people suffering from Gauchers disease.

The 60 mile ride will start at 8am at University College School playing fields in Ranulf Road, Cricklewood.

The whole route will be marshalled, riders must be over 16 and must have raised at least £250 in sponsorship.

Social responsibility coordinator for the JCC for London, David Yehuda Stern, said: “As an organisation with sustainability at its core, the JCC is proud to be raising money for so many great causes through pedal power.

“Cycling has brought us Olympic glory this summer but this event offers mere mortals the opportunity to achieve their own glory by raising money that will truly make a difference to the lives of others.”

Jude Williams, Tzedek chief executive, said “It feels like even more people are out on their bikes this summer.

“This ride is a great opportunity to raise money and awareness, and feel like Sir Chris Hoy at the end!”

The JCC and Tzedek will donate £50 of each rider’s sponsorship money to the Gauchers Association.

Gauchers disease is a genetic condition which causes lipids to build up in the organs of sufferers.

Symptoms include bruising, fatigue, anemia, liver malfunction and a distended abdomen.

This charity was chosen as the illness disproportionately affects Ashkenazi Jews.
