Barnet and Southgate College’s A-Level students are celebrating a 95 per cent pass rate.

More than 500 students were given results in 35 subjects today and they were some of the best the college has ever had.

The students achieved A* and A grades in seven per cent of their exams and Bs in 17 per cent.

The A-Level students who received their results today were the first cohort to have enjoyed the college’s A-Level Centre which opened in High Barnet two years ago.

David Byrne, the college’s principal, said: “Barnet and Southgate College has achieved some amazing results this year with 100 per cent pass rates in many subjects.

"This is not because the exams are getting any easier, if anything the opposite is true, it’s down to the dedication of our students as they’re working even harder.”

Mehmet Altay, from Barnet achieved AAAB, he said:  “I’m off to UCL to study Bio-medicine and then I hope to study for a postgraduate degree in medicine as I’d like to be a doctor one day.

“I’ve exceeded my own expectations with my results today, I was so nervous this morning, I’m just really glad all my hard work has actually paid off.”
