An Army Cadet from Friern Barnet has completed a prestigious training course in Wales.

Harsh Depala, 17, passed the Senior Cadet Instructors Course in the Brecon Beacons.

The course can be taken by cadets nearing the end of their career and it enables them to instruct others.

Harsh undertook the training while on the cadet’s annual two week training camp which he attended with nearly 500 other cadets from north and west London.

During the training camp Harsh, who wants to be an engineer in the army, took part in activities including clay target shooting, paintballing, kayaking and first aid training.

The Southgate College pupil, who has been a cadet for four years, said: “On the course I’ve learned how to deliver lessons and lots about discipline.

“What I’ve enjoyed most is meeting new people.”

Colonel Mark Hodson TD, Commandant of the Middlesex and North West London Army Cadet Force, said: "Over five hundred teenage Army Cadets from north and west London have enjoyed a real opportunity to develop personally and hone their skills in the Welsh countryside.

“It’s been a really excellent two weeks camp, with a varied programme of activities which fully engaged the interest of our cadets and staff.

“The camp is the culmination of a lot of hard work throughout the year.

“Looking after all of these young people is a challenging task and I am really very grateful to all my adult volunteers who give up their time so generously for our future citizens."
