At a time when the government need to engage the youth they decide to cut youth services along with anything else in existence. In a crazed Thatcherite frenzy Cameron, George Osborne and Nick ‘Who wants Coffee’ Clegg are cutting everything including youth centres.

The government android from the department of education said the fairest thing for young people is to protect education. That’s not the ‘fairest thing’ that’s the LEAST that needs to be done.

With student fee’s set to rise and youth centre’s being deprived of funding, the future isn’t orange it’s bleak. Rumours are already being circulated that the coalition plan to cut two for one cinema tickets or ‘Broke Wednesdays’too. That could and would trigger a youth revolt.

When you’re trapped in the bubble of academia enslaved in the monotonous routine of attributing a ‘grade’ to your name, you need a release. Something like ‘Economics’ for example is so painfully boring its like watching paint dry whilst being kicked in the crotch. Then you get home and see Adrian Chiles everywhere on T.V and you feel like throwing acid on your eyes.

Not only that, when you’re a young person you’re looking for a sense of identity. Youth centre’s engage the youth in a positive atmosphere whilst keeping them productive. A youth centre is like a hub of creativity, in one room people are making soulful hip hop or grime tracks in another writing poetry.

I see the changes in the youth and in myself from volunteering and going to the Canada Villa youth centre in Mill Hill each week. The staff are made up of talented, passionate and caring people including performance poets like ‘The Leano.’ The staff inspire and change the attitudes of young people through the creative arts.

Whatever your political inclinations this move defies logic. People power needs to be exercised to educate elitist Eaton egg-heads that education is essential and so are youth services.

Last week, Marvin Henry in Mill Hill was shot and killed. On youtube there is a beautiful song dedicated to him: entitled ‘Marvin Henry, God Bless.’ If the government want to strip youth services they will see the ramifications. They will also be taking the biggest creative outlet from the youth.
