I have been a Labour councillor representing Colindale for the past four years. For family reasons, I have decided to stand down so I am not contesting my seat. I take issue with the comments Councillor Mark Shooter has made in his letter (‘Be grateful for improvements’, Your Views, June 12).

My colleagues and I have worked hard for the people of Colindale but when the administration refuses to spend money in the area on roads and pavements but can spend over a £1million in Golders Green (a Conservative ward), it becomes a joke.

Cllr Shooter praises the new build in Colindale but omits to say that, as well as Beaufort Park and Pulse, there is also Zenith House, The Peel Centre, The British Library site, The Business Site next door, Barnet College and now we are told Homebase is going to be built on. Perhaps Cllr Shooter can tell us where the infrastructure is because there are no plans to build a medical centre. Residents tell me they have problems finding a doctor so what will happen when we have more 10,000 new homes in the area?

For over two years, I fought along with my colleagues and a local residents’ association for a crossing for Aerodrome Road. It is now being done but only because St George’s of Beaufort Park have supplied the money, not the Conservative administration.
