Contemplating a new garden bridge across the Thames, Mayor Boris Johnson said: “I would rather have a quiet garden bridge than one where pedestrians feel they constantly have to whisk round to watch out for a cyclist.”
Me too, and now that the Brent Cross development has been given the go-ahead, perhaps Hammerson would rethink their Living Bridge over the North Circular Road.
With a totally new development and £250million earmarked for community investment, it should not be beyond them to build separate cycle and pedestrian routes. I don’t want to be hassled anywhere by selfish cyclists with no regard for others.
The initiative would have to come from Hammerson, though. Barnet, as evidenced by its betrayal of walkers along the Dollis Valley Greenwalk, has already decided that putting cyclists on the footpath is an ‘improvement’. What that really means is that Transport for London, part of Mayor Boris Johnson’s empire, is paying them to do it. Probably today’s equivalent of 30 pieces of silver.
