Perhaps some of your correspondents should wake up when observing housing aspects.

It is obvious very few, if any, have ever been involved in house construction.

A developer will build for profit, and in doing so will generate significant employment (employees pay tax), embracing architects, consultants, utility engineers, council employees in planning departments, lawyers and, most important of all, the actual building workers.

Add to that taxes to local government for planning fees, Section 106 taxes and now CIL payment and ultimately Stamp Duty to HMG on the sale of the property. S106 and CIL payments can/are utilised by local government in provision of council/subsidised housing. Stop using the word ‘affordable’ – somewhat daft expression, as anything is affordable if you can afford it.

I have been a property developer for over 50 years and currently have projects underway in Wood Green, Friern Barnet, Crouch End, Potters Bar, Enfield, Eyhorne (Hollingbourne, Kent), Maidstone, Stanwell, Middlesex etc.

If some of the perpetual moaners got off their backsides, worked a seven-day week and stopped pontificating, they may constructively alleviate housing shortages in the South East – there is little under-supply in the Midlands and the north.
