Whilst Barnet Borough Council contemplates the ‘redesign’ of our libraries, which is one of the best public services we have, Councillor Reuben Thompstone, chairman of children, education, libraries and safeguarding committee, should be aware of the action that can be taken by members of the public who can use the Human Rights Authority (HRA) to wield their authority against councils that have decided to save money by cutting excellent community resources (‘Story did not give the full picture’, Your Views, October 16).
Past attempts by Barnet Council to close libraries mean that the public will have little confidence in any future council proposals regarding changes to the library services.
I appeal to Cllr Richard Cornelius not to make another blunder and to learn from his mistakes.
