Whilst I applaud Barnet’s drive to declutter the streets, I wonder if enough consideration has been given as to why the bollards they removed were there in the first place?

On my way to work on the morning of October 8, I was surprised to see a tarmac delivery lorry neatly nestled on the pavement of Kara Way. Nonchalant it was. The next day, I inspected where the bollards had been removed and his wheel print was more than evident.

The bollards that were removed were considered necessary by planners and were detailed on the planning application for the Travelodge Hotel building.

Barnet don’t have a good record for considering servicing for buildings. They have given outline planning for housing and retail/doctors’ surgery in front of B&Q, all of which have to be serviced from Cricklewood Lane. No provision has been made for access.

Hopefully the development will never go ahead because if it did the new avenue of trees and the granite paving, installed at great expense, is bound to suffer in the same way.
