The issue of overdevelopment in Colindale has been raised though your correspondence columns, in particular the redevelopment of the former British Newspaper Library site.

Andrew Dismore’s objections to the redevelopment have been well thought out and reasoned. We fully support Mr Dismore’s vigilance and will continue to campaign against the overdevelopment of Colindale.

The planned development will pose severe problems. As with other plans in the area it is likely that parking will prove inadequate, that traffic demands on Colindale Avenue, and nearby roads such as Booth Road, Grahame Park Way and Lanacre Avenue will intensify. The pressure on school places will increase and can we be confident that one of the area’s few public green spaces, the adjacent Colindale Park, will be safe from a sell-off by Barnet’s Conservative council?

If our opponents have their way, Colindale will have the population of Canterbury with a fraction of the educational, cultural, sporting and health facilities that it deserves.
