I am writing in response to your story regarding the 30 Minutes Free parking petition (‘Keep the 30 Minutes Free parking petition signatures rolling in’, Times Series, March 20).
Anything that would encourage and improve our high streets is worth while.
Over the years, too many have become ghost towns with many shops long shut down and boarded up. They become ugly eyesores leaving areas ripe for vandalism by all who indulge in it.
Therefore, why not have one hour free parking to encourage use of local shops, which will help small businesses. Unless this happens, there will be no decent high streets left.
We don’t all shop online or have cars to go to large out-of-town supermarkets, and not all elderly or disabled people have someone able to take them shopping.
