Closures are not the answer

3:34pm Tuesday 25th June 2002

The last Labour administration decided to close Partingdale Lane in the face of the overwhelming majority of residents who petitioned for it to stay open.

The case for reopening was and is clear: closure is unnecessary to create a green walk; there are plenty of footpaths in the immediate vicinity.

Closure forces traffic onto adjacent roads which are now suffering extra traffic from new developments; congestion increases pollution.

We would all like our own road closed to all except ourselves, but that is not a choice we have.
