Where are commuters supposed to park?

7:21pm Tuesday 8th January 2002

I read with dismay the proposal to introduce a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) at Hendon Thameslink Station and possibly at Hendon Central and Brent Cross (Rail hoppers face a difficult future', Times Group, December 20).

I feel the council does not understand the word 'commuter', or perhaps, having their own parking spaces for their offices, have no need to understand it.

A commuter is a human being whose place of work may be in the West End or the City. These human beings have been instructed not to drive into central London and to use public transport and so they use the trains and the underground.

Some of these commuters do not live within walking distance of a station. Some of them do not live on a bus route, and some do not wish to wait 20 minutes or more in the rain and cold for a bus to take them to a station.

These commuters therefore need to drive to their nearest station, park somewhere nearby and catch the train.

Now that almost every station in the borough has a CPZ, will someone please answer my question where are commuters supposed to park so that they can commute to work?
