Brent Cross Cricklewood: So-called myths are still concerns

In reply to Jonathan Joseph (‘Working to dispel the myths’, Your Views, January 28), the Cricklewood Community Forum welcomes his offer of a continuing dialogue on the development plans.

However, no changes were made to the original plans as a result of members of the forum meeting with him in October 2008 and expressing our concerns and putting forward alternative proposals.

We were, and still are, concerned at the effects on the community of 7,500 high-rise flats, the resulting increase in traffic, noise and pollution, the loss of existing green spaces and the new waste facility.

The Brent Cross Cricklewood planning application, approved by Barnet Council in November 2009, but still to receive full planning permission from the Mayor of London and Government Office for London, will mean we lose Clarefield Park, the two green triangles of land between Clitterhouse Crescent and Brent Terrace and the only green space in Cricklewood Town Centre on Cricklewood Lane.

These green spaces are essential to the areas where we live, yet are to be built on.

Our concerns about the new waste handling and treatment facility, moved across the tracks to beside the A5, centre around the new site being closer to more homes and a primary school, the number of trucks accessing it off the A5 and the safety of the new technology.

How can we have a meaningful dialogue with developers who dismiss our very real concerns by calling them myths and seem unwilling to make any changes to their plans?
