Brent Cross Cricklewood: We won’t be bamboozled

10:37am Friday 5th February 2010

I see Jonathan Joseph has emerged to yet again attack the thousands of people who object to the misguided plans for the so-called ‘regeneration’ of Brent Cross Cricklewood.

Mr Joseph speaks of debunking myths. I wonder why he is the only one who ever speaks on behalf of the developers?

Do those companies who are supposedly sinking billions into the Brent Cross regeneration not have their own voice?

Or is it just that Mr Joseph is the one fronting the expensive words being written by the expensive PR agencies?

The many ordinary people who have written and spoken against the plans don’t have hundreds of thousands of pounds to spend fighting these plans. But, we do have right, will and purpose on our side.

The developers may have the power of money, but we have the power of right and determination and the will not to have our community ruined.

We won’t be bamboozled and we won’t be bullied. And, most importantly, we aren’t going away.

Mr Joseph claims to be in dialogue with residents — well, you’ve not had any dialogue here.

You’ve not consulted us about the 300 extra cars every hour that will use the narrowest road west of the A5. Those are your own traffic figures, Mr Joseph — are they as reliable as the others?

Mr Joseph ignores, as always, the majority of adverse impacts that will be the result of this ill thought-out plan. It’s essential the plan is called in for a full public inquiry, so all the facts and figures can be put under the microscope of an objective review.

If he is as sure as he says of the wonders that will accrue in his brave new Brent Cross world, then surely he has nothing to fear and will welcome the chance to put his case.

If there are myths to be debunked, then let’s have an impartial planning inquiry.

If Mr Joseph, Mike Freer and Barnet Council are so sure of their facts, then they surely will have nothing to fear.

Or, will they all be standing, Tony Blair-like, in front of a board of inquiry in a few years time?
