Graham Hutchins, a wonderful and remarkable man

11:01am Friday 26th February 2010

The many friends and acquaintances of the late Graham Hutchins would like to applaud his work as chairman of the Cricklewood Forum and editor of Cricklewood Matters for over 20 years. Also, for his sterling work as a member of our local history group.

The Cricklewood Forum is an alliance of residents’ associations, schools and other interest groups, the only criteria being that you want to work for the good of Cricklewood.

Local matters are debated and discussed and local events, such as the Cricklewood Festival, are organised and supported. Graham’s legacy lives on under the adept chairmanship of Pauline Mckinnell.

Residents of the Barnet part of Cricklewood expected and loved Cricklewood Matters, delivered to the door, free of charge, four times a year.

Graham, on a voluntary basis was roving reporter, editor, secretary and treasurer, producing Cricklewood Matters — a Herculean task often unappreciated as his name appeared only in the smallest font at the bottom of the page.

We celebrated Graham’s work a couple of years ago at The Crown Moran Hotel, where he was presented with a Lifetime Achievement’s Award by the forum.

We took the opportunity to make other awards to local luminaries who distinguished themselves with their service to Cricklewood.

Graham was widely known and loved not only for his work, but also for his unstinting generosity and wisdom. He said if you worked on a voluntary basis in local affairs, the only thing you were sure of was a broken heart. We would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to a truly wonderful and remarkable man. He is greatly missed.
