I am writing about the recent spate of road safety cameras within Potters Bar. I appreciate these cameras are there to enforce the speed limits and thereby to enhance safety, but surely a stretch of road less than 1/4 mile in length does not warrant the installation of not one, but three new cameras?
I was under the impression a directive had been sent from central Government to all councils advising safety cameras should only be used at sites where there are frequent or serious road traffic collisions.
I cannot recall there being a major accident within Potters Bar for several years.
My concern is these devices are being used not for safety, but for revenue collection as, to my knowledge, there are now at least nine of these devices situated solely within Potters Bar.
As far as I am aware, no consultation was carried out with residents prior to erecting these three yellow eyesores, which seem to be reproducing at an alarming rate on the streets of our little town.
Surely the monies spent installing these could have been better spent relaying the footpaths which are, and have been for several years, full of potholes, in a poor state of repair littered with dog faeces and so poorly lit that in the dark you have to take a torch with you simply to see what you are stepping in?
