It was previously reported that I had contacted Tube Lines and London Underground about proposals for massive weekend closures on the Northern Line (‘MP calls for common sense on Northern Line upgrade works’, www.times-series.co.uk, Wednesday February 3). I now have a progress report. Emails sent to me by Tube Lines and London Underground both raise as many questions as they answer.
There appear to be blatant contradictions. Tube Lines says it proposed fewer weekend closures, but London Underground turned it down. London Underground says it is urging Tube Lines to have fewer weekend closures, and it has no power to turn down proposals from Tube Lines.
All I want is for this work to be done with far fewer weekend closures than are planned, as weekend closures spell misery for people using the Northern Line.
Since Tube Lines and London Underground both claim to want fewer weekend closures, it should be possible to achieve this.
I will continue negotiating with both organisations in pursuit of such an outcome.
