Last Saturday evening I had to call the emergency medical service, whose doctor got back to me in 20 minutes and gave me reassurance and sound advice.
I went to the walk-in clinic at the Finchley Memorial Hospital where they dealt with me in half-an-hour, and the doctor gave me a few tests and further advice. I then went to the A&E department of the Royal Free Hospital (where I have had treatment).
As an immune-deficient patient, the nurses saw me quickly, administered more tests and finally the doctor diagnosed the probable cause.
The first emergency call was at 6pm and I was back home at 11pm. Everyone from the receptionists to the nurses and doctors treated me speedily, kindly and professionally.
I have nothing but admiration, respect and gratitude for these medical personnel. So yes, three cheers for the NHS and a big bouquet to all.
